The Fiddly Test

Six questions before we build anything.

Six questions Fiddly Labs asks before building a product.

Does it happen again and again?

A one-off annoyance does not need a product. We look for work people have to repeat.

What are people doing today?

If people are keeping a spreadsheet alive, searching old messages or entering the same details twice, there is probably a real problem.

Will an app actually save work?

A new app should remove steps, not dress them up in a nicer interface.

Can people check the result?

Important information should stay close to its source so people can check it for themselves.

Can we look after it properly?

We only build something if a small team can support it, secure it and keep it useful.

Would anyone miss it?

The aim is to make a tool people rely on, not another account they forget about.
